What you can do at the office!
What can your corporate office do to become part of the solution? The first step in helping to make your company more environmentally sustainable is to recognize where you may already have green practices in place and to start planning new ones to implement. You can begin with a simple list and work toward a full sustainability plan customized to your company. This plan will provide the guidelines for creating and implementing green goals and measures.
Many changes are simple, easy to start practicing, and can make a huge difference in the impact of your carbon footprint. For example, at Diesel Direct, we have recently put into place a few green initiatives which are making a huge difference. For example, in May 2016, we switched over to paperless invoicing. By making the switch from paper invoices to electronic invoices, we will save over 30,000 pieces of a paper a year!
Another green initiative we practice at Diesel Direct is upcycling. Upcycling nearly doubles the environmental impact of recycling. It keeps equipment and parts up the life cycle through re-use of whole units and parts, leaving only a small amount being sent to end of life recycling.
Below is a list of a few of the green office practices we are putting into place at Durable Diesel:
- Set computers to energy-saving settings or shut them down when done for the day
- Keep digital copies rather than filing cabinets
- Reuse boxes when shipping and use shredded waste paper as packing material
- Let in more natural daylight through office windows
- Place plants around office and freshen up the air
